This lovely walk starts near The Frog Inn pub in Skirmett. It’s a 2 mile route mostly travelling along the perimeter edge of Great Wood woods. Google maps doesn’t show the footpaths sadly but the route is really easy to follow, as it is a well trodden path and there are helpful arrows painted onto the trees.

Pick up the route about 100 metres past the pub (on your left) you will notice a small private lane/track on your left leading to a house. This lane is shown on google maps but with no name. It turn’s into a footpath at the end. The route starts off mostly uphill (a little bit on the steep side!) as you head into the woods with far reaching views to your right, over towards the windmill in Turville.

Keep following the main path uphill for a fair distance until you reach a fork. The left fork stays in the woodland, the right fork takes you to a gate going downhill leaving the woods and entering a field. You can see the gate from the fork. Either route works but if you enter the field you need to bare left back on yourself again to re-enter the woods and re-join the path (see blue line on the map below). From here keep following the arrows painted on the trees right the way back to the road in Skirmett village.

There is short stretch of road to get back to the The Frog pub and the beginning of the walk. The roads are really quiet so we felt very comfortable walking this stretch with our 5 and 8 year old.
