Higginson Park Improvement Plans

MarlowMums were hugely excited to hear of the improvement plans in the pipeline for the play area in Higginson Park. We were even more excited to hear that Buckinghamshire Council are requesting suggestions from locals on how to make the space work best.

Higginson Park is undoubtedly the jewel in the crown of our lovely town. When we were relocating from London nearly ten years ago it was the park, the river and green space just off the High Street that made Marlow the top of our list and it’s what draws so many people into the town for days out. However, the play park, it’s fair to say, has been well loved and used and is now in desperate need of a glow up which is why we’re so happy it’s getting the investment it deserves.

Following our shout out on social media for your suggestions we received a huge number of ideas on what mums and dads want to see so thank you! We’ve compiled all of your thoughts and comments and have sent them on to Buckinghamshire Council so watch this space!

If you have other ideas not on our list, be sure to contact Bucks Council at groundsmaintenance.wyc@buckinghamshire.gov.uk and have your opinions heard.

  • A separate area for younger children and older children as it is difficult to keep them safe in such a large space
  • A zip wire and more challenging climbing frames for older children that build strength like monkey bars
  • A splash pad or water play area
  • A sandpit
  • A sunken trampoline area
  • More swings for younger children as there is always a queue at the weekends
  • Due to the high usage of the park, increasing its footprint to make the space larger with a bigger variety of equipment
  • A more ‘natural’ look with lots of wood and rope
  • A disabled swing and some wheelchair accessible equipment
    More seating areas for parents and carers
  • A separate area with seating that dogs can enter as lots of families bring their dogs to the park and do not feel comfortable tying them to the gates outside
  • Improving the baby changing facilities in the toilets
  • Only one entrance and exit to make it safer
  • Picnic tables
  • Plants and shrubs to make the area feel greener.
