Harry’s Field – camping in the New Forest

harrysfield_853x481

We’re pretty much camping ‘newbies’ but as the forecast was dry we decided on a spontaneous night away under the stars. One night felt like the perfect balance – our boys could enjoy the great outdoors and we only needed to get through one night of disturbed sleep 🙂

We booked Harry’s Field in the New Forest, after reading some rave reviews and it didn’t disappoint – so much so, I felt compelled to share the experience here….

What is ‘Harry’s Field’

It’s pretty much just that – a field in a very quiet hamlet of the New Forest that has belonged to Harry’s family for three generations. Harry opens up his field to small groups and family campers during the summer months. For ‘just a field’ it has a lot of charm,
decent facilities and the most important thing – the perfect location.

What we loved about Harry’s Field

  1. Easy to get to: it’s an easy 1.5hrs drive from Marlow nestled in the New Forest. To get there you drive through the forest which is fun for the kids as they see the ponies and cattle grazing lose next to the road.

2. Great walks: from the camp site you can walk out into the forest for as long or as little as works for your family. The camp site gave us fishing nets to take to the stream for a bit of fishing fun (the absence of fish didn’t seem to take away from the fun for our boys!) We did a circular walk which was great fun, spotting lots of ponies and bunny rabbits along the way. It felt totally safe with no car’s or main roads in sight.

3. Great pub next door for dinner. Next to the camp site there is a lovely pub called The Foresters Arm. We had a yummy dinner here then went back to the camp site for toasted marshmellows on the fire pit.

4. Fantastic local attractions. About 15 mins drive away there is Moors Valley Country Park. This is fab FREE massive woodland country park with loads of amazing play structures (see pics). There is also Peppa Pig world and Bournemouth Aviation Museum not far away.

The Facilities

Hot showers, proper toilets, communal kitchen with washing up facilities and tea/coffee supplies, bbq’s and fire baskets allowed. Dogs welcome.
